UCLA scientists have developed additional information about what we already knew: dark-colored fruit juices, such as grape, blueberry, black cherry and cranberry are healthiest. They discovered also that the dark-colored fruit enjoyed by ancient Greeks, including Spartans, is the healthiest of all. Pomegranate juice was found by the researchers to be the number-one healthiest fruit juice. The main reason dark fruits are healthier, according to the study, is their high antioxidant levels. In our view, however, there are three things wrong with the study, or at least how it’s being reported in the mainstream press:
1. As is often the case, foods are discussed as “drugs” that help fight various diseases and other health problems. In fact, it’s not natural, ancient foods that cure or prevent diseases, but the absence of those foods that cause disease and other health problems. Our bodies expect and need them in order to function properly.
2. Why juice? The Spartan Diet calls for drinking only water, and not drinking juice. The healthiest and best and most Spartan way to consume pomegranates (as well as grapes, cherries, blueberries and cranberries) is to eat them whole and raw. Organic is best. What’s funny is that the researchers arbitrarily focused on juice — a product made from the fruit rather than the fruit itself — then warned people not to drink too much juice because of its concentrated amounts of sugar and high calories. And they don’t warn againt “dead foods” (fruit or juice in cans or bottles) or praise “live” foods, such as fresh fruits. Spartans: Ignore the juice bit and just eat pomegranates as one of the many whole raw fruits you eat every day — no warnings necessary.
3. They focus on the anti-oxidant part of the fruit, and ignore the many other qualities, including vitamins, fiber and the rest. Again, it’s not a drug. It’s a food, which should be eaten for all its health benefits, not just the ones scientists have decided are the important ones.

OK Gals (and Guys),
We’ve had a whole bunch of emails asking us if we knew the best way, or ways to treat recurrent yeast infections.
Well, we’re not doctors, but we just completed some excellent research and it’s too long to post here on our blog, so we put it up on a seperate Web page on our site. It has videos, symptoms and types of natural remedies that we believe in here at GoWomensHealth.info. We think it’s excellent information and you can check it out here Treat Recurrent Yeast Infections
If you’re suffering from this infection we think this will help. So, check it out.

The other day I’m on my lunch break at the local bistro. Sitting a few tables over are three guys making a racket and talking loud enough to be heard by every patron. One particularly loud gent, and I use that word loosely, was explaining his latest line he used to hit on women in his new spinning class at the gym. “Oh, I invited her over to adjust my knob” he said, with a boisterous laugh and was “obviously” referring to the tension lever on the spinner. His fellow diners quickly joined him with their own roar of laughter, this while raw meat dangled from their mouths. I’m sure there was powdered testosterone sprinkled on that meat instead of salt. “Where else can you hit on women except the gym,” he asked his buddies with more laughter bellowing from within. I felt a quick burst of rage and then settled down. I waited until they stuffed more food in their mouths and then walked over to their table. In a rather loud, and somewhat mocking voice I asked, “Do you think it’s possible, just possible that women are at the gym to workout? Think about it guys.” They looked up at me somewhat surprised and started to wipe their mouths with the back of their hands and I quickly turned and strolled out the door… before they could make any snide remarks. Hey, they have to swallow that mouthful of food before they can talk, don’t they?
Wow, that was a nice rant and I feel better now. But seriously, I got tired of going to the gym and having guys constantly hit on me. Not that I don’t appreciate guys, it’s just that I’m there for a workout. So, a few years back I came up with my own bullet proof list to avoid being a target, not only inside the gym but also when I left the gym. And for those girls who are looking for guys, the gym might me a good place to start. Just use your own common sense when handing out your phone number. With that in mind, here is my list.
1. Workout With a Female Trainer
True, this might be a little expensive, but it’s probably the best way to avoid being a target and the best way to get the most out of your workout. The trainer will keep you motivated, keep you moving, show you how to do the exercises properly and be very attentive to your personal needs. Most trainers offer free nutritional tips and will not allow interruptions during the workout.
2. What’s in a Cubic?
Cubic Zirconia that is, a little imitation diamond on the left hand goes a long way. Spend $40 and the next time a guy approaches you in the gym, just lift up your left hand, show him the finger (the third finger gals) and show off that Cubic. Shake your head, give him a wry smile and then go about your business. For a good selection of CZ’s in the $40 to $50 dollar range click here
3. Consider a Daily or Monthly Pass at the Local Recreation Center
This is excellent and I do it all the time. For a low price I get to use the entire facility for a month. Today’s recreational centers are not your daddy’s YMCA. The centers are equipped with the latest and greatest. If you have kids, they are usually permitted to go in and swim, play basketball, and do a host of other fitness programs. This type of center is generally family oriented and there are fewer guys on the prowl. You can get in a good workout without any interruptions. Just turn on your IPOD stick in the buds and you’re set.
4. Join Curves
There is a reason why this is the fastest growing fitness gym in the country. It’s for women only. They offer excellent support with a well trained staff. This gym is not for the advanced athlete, but it is particularly good for women who need to lose weight at a steady pace and keep fit. To find a location near you click here
5. Keep it Safe Gals
Gyms can be dangerous. You’re around moving equipment, protruding objects, free weights, and other people. Always be aware of your space. Be courteous to others. When you’re through with your workout and if it’s dark outside, walk out when others are leaving. Try and park your car close to an entrance or exit. At the very least park under a light or in a well lit area. Always have your car keys in your hand when leaving the gym. Don’t take valuables to the gym and don’t store them in a locker. And finally, carry a canister of mace and don’t be afraid to use it.I hope these suggestions will keep you safe and help you get the most out of your fitness program. Most of all, I hope you get out and join a gym if you haven’t already. It’s one of the best things you can do for yourself. Always wishing you good health and success.
