Women’s health is a growing concern. Whether you are a younger woman coping with menstrual problems or a woman experiencing issues related to menopause, there may be some convenient solution to help solve some of your problems. Shaklee has the best solutions for both problems in GLA Complex, Menopause Balance Complex and Menopause Balance Complex Cooling Lotion.
Menstrual Issues
Menstrual issues may be solved by using Shaklee’s GLA Complex, which is designed to promote menstrual health with a combination of Borage oil, Sunflower seed oil and Vitamin E to reduce inflammation and provide for healthy hormonal balance.
• Borage oil contains both linolenic acid and gamma linolenic acid (GLA) which helps to form certain types of prostaglandins that promote healthy hormonal activity during the menstrual cycle. Production of the right type of prostaglandin may help to ease and promote healthy blood flow and reduce PMS symptoms. Borage oil is higher in GLA than many other plant products and is readily absorbed making it an ideal ingredient in young women’s health supplements.
• Sunflower seed oil is high in omega fatty acids which may help to reduce inflammation. It is also high in lignans, linolenic acid and other phytonutrients which promote all over health and may help to balance mood, important in women’s health issues related to the menstrual cycle.
• Vitamin E natural concentrate (d-alpha tocopherol) is known to be a highly active antioxidant which helps scavenge free radicals which may contribute to stress and body damage. Most women are deficient in Vitamin E and taking a quality supplement with vitamin E may help promote young women’s health by reduction the symptoms of PMS and improving skin appearance which may be a particularly troubling portion of the menstrual cycle.
Menopausal Issues
Menopausal symptoms may be reduced with Shaklee Menopause Balance Complex supplement containing Black Cohosh, Flaxseed, Soy and a proprietary Blend of Dong Quai, Red Clover and Licorice extract all designed to replace waning hormone levels with natural phytosterols which may reduce some of the more troubling symptoms of menopause. Menopause Balance Complex Cooling Lotion may be applied to the skin to naturally protect against temperature fluctuations which contribute to night sweats, hot flashes and difficulty sleeping. The cooling lotion contains a blend of Black Cohosh, Evening Primrose, Flaxseed and Soy in a moisturizing base of highly absorbable Jojoba oil.
• Black Cohosh is the primary ingredient in most women’s health supplements for those dealing with issues related to the onset of menopause. Black Cohosh has been proven to reduce symptoms of menopause such as hot flashes. It may also help with other symptoms such as insomnia, irritability, and mood imbalance. It is high in phytoestrogens which act to naturally supplement waning hormone levels during and after the onset of menopause, making it an essential part of a woman’s health regimen.
• Flaxseed, both extract and oil is known to be high in healthy essential fatty acids. Omega fatty acids have been shown to promote the health of many body systems including heart, brain and joints. It may help to reduce bad cholesterol, protect against memory loss and reduce inflammation which may contribute to conditions such as arthritis, all common women’s health issues for those nearing menopause.
• Soy has been shown to contain isoflavones, which also act as phytohormones to promote health in women. Phytohormones may protect against diseases such as cancer and may reduce some symptoms of menopause.
• Dong Quai has long been used in Asia to treat conditions of women’s health problems including those related to menopause. It has been called “female tonic” because it has a mild estrogenic effect important in the treatment of menopausal symptoms.
• Red Clover is known to be high in phytoestrogens and other plant based sterols which may reduce symptoms of menopause. It has been used as a women’s health supplement for many years to reduce occurrences of hot flashes and night sweats which are a particular problem for many women.
• Licorice Root is thought to balance the hormones by acting as a phytoprogesterone. This may help to restore the natural balance of estrogen and progesterone which are both important in the maintenance of women’s health.
• Evening Primrose oil and extract have been used to promote healthy sleep during menopause. This is particularly important as many women complain of insomnia and frequent nighttime awakenings. Sleep difficulties are common both due to hot flashes and night sweats but also due to an inability to relax. Evening primrose oil provides women’s health benefits by reducing menopausal symptoms and promoting relaxation.
• Jojoba oil is highly absorbable and promotes moisture retention when applied to skin. It is the best vehicle for creams as it allows for better absorption of other ingredients while acting as an excellent moisturizer, important for aging skin.

Everyone probably knows the saying about the eyes being the window to one’s soul. And what better way to flutter one’s best eyes forward than a proper application of eye shadow. Learning how to apply eye shadow the right way is the first step in flaunting one’s natural beauty.
To start with, a full eye makeup should be complemented by well shaped eyebrows. Ensure that your eyebrows have been tweaked and trimmed to do away with uneven extra hair that may distort the overall facial appearance. Once the eyebrows are in place, assess the actual shape of your eyes. A good eyeshadow application should enhance the positive points and minimize the defects. Painting the eyes into the intended dramatic effect is sometimes just what you’ll need for a complete facial makeup.
Eye shadows on your eyes should never be too obvious. A good one can be judged by having beautiful eyes without seeing the makeup on it. That is because eye shadows should be used to create the illusion of depths and shades that will bring out the good angles of your eyes without the look of being outrightly painted on. Needless to say, light colored eye shadows are preferred during daytime and smoky eyes are best to party with at night.
From your lash line up to your brow, cover the entire eyelid with a light eye shadow as base. A typical eye make up consists of this base and a medium, slightly darker shade on the lower eye lid. The color may depend on your preference but it will be safe not to go far from your present outfit. A dark rose or a light blue over a cream, pinkish base can be safely neutral, and you can adjust according to the outfit. But then again, this matching of the eye make up with the clothing should not be overdone. A discreet harmony of colors is essential, and a good makeup should not even bring out the colors but the features. Do not forget to blend. The eye color should not be seen as darker color on top of the light one. Use your finger tips or a brush to carefully spread over one eye shadow over the other, making them almost a natural part of the skin. Do not neglect as well the temple part of the head, or the area where the eye shadow ends. This part should also be well blended, with the colors diffusing unto the skin foundation.
Draw a line over the entire upper portion of the lash line using a pencil eyeliner or a liquid one. The thickness of the line depends on the shape of your eyes, a thicker one makes a small, squinty eye look more rounded and a thin one is advisable to those with bigger eyes. Finish off with a mascara to add volume and length into your lashes.
Invite everyone into the beauty of your individuality and mesmerize them with your gaze. Even you will be amazed at how your confidence and personality improves by simply learning how to apply eye shadow the perfect way.

As you might imagine, traveling for business does not come easy when you are also the main caregiver in your family. That is the case for me. I have two boys, ages 9 and 6 1/2. They are school aged, which helps, but what about those in between times when the kids get out of school and before dad gets home? Or, those times when travel conflicts with minimum school days or school vacation days like 4 days off during the week because it’s President’s Day?
The short answer: it’s mind boggling. All those “things” you do as a mom that come naturally that you don’t normally download to anyone else. Oh, like packing school lunches, making sure the library books are in the kids’ backpacks when it’s library day, giving the cat her medicine on specific days during the week…you get the picture. Now you have to write it all down for your spouse to handle. And, you have to coordinate childcare between the time the kids get out of school and the time your husband arrives home from work. This means many phone calls/emails to/from friends and relatives asking for help (the kids like their play dates). It also means notifying the teachers where the kids are supposed to be in the event of a snafu, and it all needs to be clearly outlined so your husband knows where to pick up the kids when he gets off of work. Are you tired yet?
I create an Excel Spreadsheet broken out by day. Everything from what day the garbage cans need to go to the curb to ensuring that the Valentine’s Day cards (that I worked on with my children ahead of time) get put in their backpacks so they can exchange them during their parties.
In prep for these trips, I make dinners ahead of time (and freeze them) and/or we plan for simple meals. I do all the laundry before I leave. Of course, the responsibility of my travel does not fall entirely on me by any means. While I am away, my husband steps up to the plate - using that Excel Spreadsheet as a guide to accomplishing those day to day “things”. (He probably appreciates me more when I return, an added benefit, and I am appreciative for his support.)
When I am not traveling, I offer to take my friends’ children for play dates, especially when they have work or an appointment. I am fortunate to have a supportive group of friends and nearby relatives.
Do I feel guilty about traveling? No. My husband supports me in this effort. And, I know that I’ve worked my darndest to ensure a smooth transition during my travels by planning ahead of time. I feel my business gives back in so many ways - from our product that relieves nausea, a very common and debilitating problem; to our charitable donations to Fertile Hope; to providing income to our employees/consultants and doing our part to stimulate our economy; to serving as a role model for my boys (working mindfully towards a goal); to providing income for my family to help us meet our personal, financial and philanthropic goals.
Business travel as a mom may not be easy, but it’s worth it to me. And, frankly, those things in life that do come easy are usually not the ones that we savor. It’s those that we work hard at that we typically find the most memorable and the most rewarding.

Baby shower ideas and decorations requires a crucial plan for the perfect baby shower for the expectant mother so that the event goes on without being boring and allows the guests to have a fantastic, memorable time.
Prior to planning the shower sit down with the mother-to-be and have a good conversation with her to get insight on what her interests are and if she has baby clothing or equipment and find out what kind of personality she has. If the woman likes to talk, she may like to have a group discussion rather that playing games but the right games can be so much fun. Discover if she is a traditional woman and would like baby gifts or if she would like personal gifts. Some women love personal gifts especially if they have almost everything they need for her new baby. This will give you information that you need for baby shower ideas and decorations. If she is practical, you may want to encourage her to register at a gift registry if she wants gifts that she can use.
Once you start brainstorming on the ideas that the Mom has, get the personal touch going and put the ideas into play. You will want this to be as personal for her so it doesn’t become a typical baby shower. Get on the phone and get more input from your friends, family, and attendees on baby shower ideas and decorations. You’ll never know, you could become in demand for the perfect baby shower hostess!
If you are in charge of planning a baby shower selecting the right time for the event will usually happen 4 - 6 weeks prior to the delivery of the baby or within the last trimester. Don’t plan your time too close to the baby’s due date because it might be risky if the baby comes early. Check out a good day when the mom-to-be has a big belly so that the games that are played can be fun and exciting and full of laughter, such as playing the game of “Don’t Cross Your Legs” unless of course it is a surprise shower. Don’t plan it too early, it won’t be as much fun.
You will need to have a location for the shower, depending on the budget you have to work with and how many people you think will attend. You could rent out a place, use a church or if it is in nice weather have it in a park if the attendance is going to be a large one or have it in someone’s home which is the tradition where most of the baby showers are these days given the budget most people have to work with. The home of the hostess is typically where the event will occur.
Prepare a list of people that the expectant mother would like to invite and get the invites out early so the attendees can schedule the exciting day. Next, after a list of invites has been prepared, contact the individuals to get a few extra baby shower ideas and decorations that they would like to see. You can’t fulfill everyone’s ideas for this but you will have an added bonus when you use some of them at the shower.
Decorating can be as simple as baby-themed plates and napkins to hand-made items such as centerpieces or hand stitched teddy bears. Baby items and flowers will also add to decorating the room. If you don’t have the time to make such hand-made items, you can purchase decorations at your local party supply store. One of the neatest decorations I have seen was a cardboard cake pattern about 16 inches around with two tiers and the cake was surrounded by rolled up newborn diapers to look like the frosting. The diapers were held together with rubber bands. Not only was this a conversation piece but very useful to the new mother-to-be.
Party favors for the guests are a way of thanking them for coming, anything from a nice box of candies to more expensive gifts is a nice way of saying thank you. Don’t forget small items as prizes for the winners of the games. They can be purchased or hand-made also. Usually they might be baby items that the guests give to the expectant mother so she can use them such as hand covers for baby, or pacifiers.
As you can see, baby shower ideas and decorations can be very simple. With good recipes, venues and themes you can make it an event with the personality of the new mother-to-be and you could become the new baby shower hostess of the year.

Recurrent yeast infections, or technically known as recurrent monilia vaginitis, affect about 6% of the female population. And the burning question any sufferer asks is: “why do I keep getting yeast infections?” That question is a fair one, but difficult to answer.
Recurrent yeast infections, or even the occasional yeast infection, can more than likely be attributed to a weakened immune system. Something as common as being infected by a virus, such as the cold or flu, can leave you susceptible to a yeast infection. And having that “time of the month” also puts your immune system in a weakened state, which should not be a surprise to anyone. That’s why so many women get a recurrent yeast infection that coincides with their menstrual cycle. Also, if you have recurring U.T.I.’s, then you are often the victim of recurrent yeast infections. Taking a high quality supplemental “immune booster” is an excellent way to combat these ailments.
However, just having your immune system in a vulnerable state may not be the only reason for recurrent yeast infections. There is good reason to believe the bacteria in our system plays a roll.
There is good bacteria, bad bacteria and even yeast that all live in the intestines. To remain healthy, all three of these organisms must be in balance. For example, when you have a low count of good bacteria, that’s when you become susceptible to recurrent yeast infections, viruses and diseases.
Knowing what factors are involved that cause an imbalance will help you prevent many of the recurrent yeast infections. First, start eating healthy with plenty of vegetables, very little sugars and a variety of different foods in the food pyramid diet. Eliminate tap water. Good hygiene is a must. Avoid antibiotics if possible, if you must take them; use a supplemental probiotic to counter the effects. Last, get some exercise. Walking or running will go a long way in keeping your body healthy. And that is something we can all live with.
